'should' work? Have you talked to the programmers or something?
1) the gas mask does nothing
2) picking up the gas mask is worth no points
3) the burper can be beaten by trickery, good dodging or speed potions

There's nothing wrong with the program, it's just meant to kick your ass
a little.

I went back and tried it. It made no difference. Well, maybe a little
difference. I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I heard in the
background the sound of 20 ghasts and a purple belcher chuckling
softly.

While we're at it, there is another myth I'd really like to quash. It
has been said that it's a really nifty idea to wear the red cloak when
going through certain teleporters even though no one has been able to
provide a clear explanation of why this might be so. Okay, I did come
up with one explanation. It is possible, a remote chance mind you, that
the experienced person who rendered the advice would be looking over the
shoulder of a less experienced person when they, following the
aforementioned advice, entered the first room of _Okay Who Else Wants
Some_ wearing the red cloak. The ensuing, green, pyrotechnicnic display
would be quite humorous.

wearing the red cloak very often is like smoking and pumping gas; every
now and then you just die.

anybody ever type an underscore while playing the game? (shift-dash)
try it. it's fun.

I've got to disagree about the gas mask doing nothing when wearing the gas
mask, I took no damage. If it's not intentional, it's one hell of a bug.

1) what's this stupid ^\ garbage in all your posts? I think you need to check
   your news posting software

2) I certainly took damage from the burper WITH the gas mask on, I can send you
before/after hit screen shots if you really want...

Patience, my good man. People on the net use all kinds of computers
and software. Chances are it looks perfectly okay at his site, and
some character gets munged in a translation process.

It would be neat if David Reevely would go back and run the room
again. Maybe there's some synergy between the gaskmask and poison
or some other object. Or maybe he just got really lucky.

Dave,

So far your post is the only one that I've seen that said the gas mask
 worked.

If you have a little time I'd like to suggest the following:
 1) Do you get any points when you pick up the mask?
My experience is that I didn't (I finished with one more point then
     the "listed" maximum. 41 or 42 total, I think. ). Therefore, I don't think
there are any points assigned to it which leads me to believe it is
     "useless" but interesting.

 2) Try again and see if by using ONLY the mask you don't take any
     damage from the purple burper.
My experience was that it didn't seem to make any difference. I took
the same amount of damage with it on vs. off.

This is just for curiosity's sake.
